Spiced Blueberry Butter
One of our neighbors has late-harvest blueberries, and Granny Smith or Golden Delicious apples abound.
In a heavy pot, combine 4 cups of blueberries, 4 cups of diced peeled apples, 2 cups of white sugar and 1 cup of light brown sugar. Tie a couple of cinnamon sticks, cloves and allspice berries In a cheesecloth bag and tuck in. Cook over very low heat, stirring occasionally, for 45 minutes or so, until thick.
Cool and refrigerate - or put into half-pint jars and process in a water bath. Really good with toast or grilled buttered English muffins.
